Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tinh, deputy chair of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Mr. Truong Van Chung, representing the sponsor organization, presented a symbolic cheque for 10 million VND to the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu.

Kieu’s family had been identified as one of the most disadvantaged in the commune. Thirteen years ago Kieu’s husband was injured in a traffic accident and lost the use of his legs. He was 50 years old at the time. With farming the family’s only source of income, Kieu was forced to work long days, and yet was still unable to afford medical care for her husband. For the past thirteen years, she has been the sole breadwinner of the family, taking charge of all household activities. She has worked tirelessly day in and day out. In the morning she searches for dry firewood, and in the afternoon she works in the rice fields. With her spare time she tries to provide adequate care for her husband.

Timely support from the Vietnam Fatherland Front has helped Kieu alleviate some of these hardships and provided the family with a much-needed source of income for medical treatment.
